Reading and Writing Difficulties Essay Example
Essays on Reading and Writing Difficulties Essay The paper "Reading and Writing Difficulties" is an excellent example of an essay on education. Learning is a continuous process involving the exposure of learners to new concepts using the available teaching aids. The quality of learning is often reflected in the learnersââ¬â¢ ability to conceptualize and deliver knowledge gained from learning. Selective choice of teaching materials enhances the effectiveness of learning. A well-designed curriculum prescribes the best type of teaching materials which have an overriding effect on the performance of learners. The genre and text structure used in reference books, for instance, determines the ability of learners to comprehend the context of the literature therein (Lipson Wixson, 2013, 230). The use of complex text structure limits the comprehensive ability of 3rd-grade learners.à Reading and writing are learning skills that are inherent in humans. At least, even in the elementary state of children, they bear the skills of reading and writing. The expression of these two abilities; however, is determined by the nature of the transition between learning materials (Lipson Wixson, 2013, 233). The organization of texts should offer some level of prediction among learners to guarantee quality learning (Lipson Wixson, 2013, 235)An ideal curriculum should provide for the use of learning materials that enable learners to relate the new concepts with some pre-existing knowledge. In essence, the performance of learners is subjective to the system of learning to which they are exposed. It, however, is appreciable that while learners may be at the same academic level and subject to similar learning materials, a disparity exists in the ease with which the concepts are received. In the case of recognizable text complexity, the learners ought to be effectively guided (Lips on Wixson, 2013, 264). Different learners have diverse learning abilities; thus subjecting them to a similar curriculum is imperatively detrimental. Learners ought to be subjected to different curricula to encourage reading and writing. The curriculum prescribes the relevant teaching materials that are appropriate for learners at different stages of learning and with different learning abilities.
Cherokee Removal Free Essays
The Cherokee people were forced out of their land because of the settlerââ¬â¢s greed for everything and anything the land had to offer. Many Cherokee even embraced the ââ¬Å"civilization program,â⬠abandoning their own beliefs so that they may be accepted by white settlers. Unfortunately for the Cherokee though, the settlers would never accept them as an equal citizen. We will write a custom essay sample on Cherokee Removal or any similar topic only for you Order Now A quote from historian Richard White says it very well, ââ¬Å"The Cherokee are probably the most tragic instance of what could have succeeded in American Indian policy and didnââ¬â¢t. All these things that Americans would proudly see as the hallmarks of civilization are going to the West by Indian people. They do everything they were asked except one thing. What the Cherokees ultimately are, they may be Christian, they may be literate, they may have a government like ours, but ultimately they are Indian. And in the end, being Indian is what killed them. â⬠The Treaty of Hopewell was set up in 1785 and was made with all the good intentions, but nobody to enforce the rules. It was set up to start setting up friendly relations with the Cherokee, but also to define the Cherokee borders. It gave the Cherokees the right to expel of any unwanted person that was on their land. Even with this treaty though people of both Georgia and North Carolina moved onto the Cherokees land, taking as they pleased. This caused there to be battles between settlers and Cherokee. There was a big racial issue when it came to battles though. Whenever the settlers would win a battle it was called an Indian war, but when the Indians would win, it was called a massacre. Henry Knox soon stepped into the picture and he came believing that it was inevitable that both ââ¬Å"civilizedâ⬠and ââ¬Å"uncivilizedâ⬠peoples should fight so much. In order to ratify this he implemented a ââ¬Å"civilization program. â⬠As a part of this program, in order to be considered ââ¬Å"civilizedâ⬠one had to dress, think, act, speak, work, and worship the same way. Knox felt the Cherokee just needed some time to learn these ways. Knox set up the Treat of Holston in 1791 where it stated, ââ¬Å"That the Cherokee nation may be let to a greater degree of civilization, and to become herdsmen and cultivators, instead of remaining in a state of hunters, the United States will, from time to time, furnish a gratuitously the said nation with useful implements of husbandry. For the Cherokee this meant leaving many of their traditions behind and embracing the American way of life in order to keep their land. In order to be ââ¬Å"civilizedâ⬠Cherokee men had to cease hunting and attend to either the fields of herd livestock. This was due to the view by the settlers that the Cherokee men were lazy because the settlers viewed huntin g as fun and a sport. Because many felt that working in the fields was something that is a womanââ¬â¢s job many turned to herding livestock as an alternative. Cherokee women were told that they could no longer work in the fields but should work in the household as a subservient. Many of the Cherokee had a hard time with this as well because they felt that the women settlers were lazy and they did not want their women to be the same way. Soon though many Cherokee women began working in the household, cooking, cleaning, or sewing. The main way Cherokees could be considered ââ¬Å"civilizedâ⬠was to accept Christianity. The U. S. government sent missionaries into Indian Territory to build schools. At these schools though they not only taught literature, math, and English, but they also taught young Cherokees how to read using the Bible and also taught them how to pray. Many Cherokees ended up accepting Christianity with a select few not willing, but that was no different than how many white settlers were. Due to the ââ¬Å"civilization programâ⬠many Cherokees became extremely wealthy and even ended up purchasing slaves to do field work. These Cherokee men became key political leaders for the Cherokee nation. They would end up writing and applying their very own ââ¬Å"Constitution of the Cherokee Nationâ⬠which was made very similar to out very own constitution. The main concern for most of the Cherokee was land and due to that it was the first thing to be outlined in the Cherokee Constitution. In Article 1-Section 1 it states the boundaries they now posses because of the treaties made with the U. S. and also states that those boundaries shall forever be their land. Cherokees made another important law about the selling of land as well in order to keep their borders, ââ¬Å"The Cherokee Nation Council advised the United States that it would refuse future cession requests and enacted a law prohibiting the sale of national land upon penalty of death. â⬠Even with these laws in place a small group of Cherokee set out against the rest of the Nation. Major Ridge, John Ridge, and Elias Boudinot, signed a removal treat at the Cherokee capital of New Echota without the authority of Principal Chief John Ross or the Cherokee government. The Treaty of New Echota required the Cherokee Nation to exchange its national lands for a parcel in the ââ¬Å"Indian Territoryâ⬠set aside by Congress, in what is now Oklahoma, in 1834 and to relocate there within two years. The federal government promised to remit $5 million to the Cherokee Nation, compensate individuals for their buildings and fixtures, and pay for the costs of relocation and acclimation. The United States also promised to honor the title of the Cherokee Nationââ¬â¢s new land, respect its political autonomy, and protect its tribe from future trespasses. Even though it was completed without the sanction of the Cherokee national government, the U. S. Senate ratified the treaty by a margin of one vote. Presidential Chief John Ross tried to prove that it was done without majority consent by getting 16,000 Cherokees to sign a document against the treaty. Ross tried to fight against the treaty till 1838, when the U. S. army was sent into the Cherokee Nation. In October, the Cherokees were herded into wooden stockades with no food, water, blankets, or sanitation. Most of them were barefoot and had no coats or blankets, yet they were forced to cross-rivers in sub-zero weather. There was about 22,000 Cherokees that were forced out of their homes on the Trail of Tears and a total of about 5,500 died along the way of exposure, starvation, and disease. A guard wrote, ââ¬Å"I fought through the War (Civil War), and I saw men shot to pieces and slaughtered by the thousands, but the Cherokee Removal was the cruelest work I ever knew. â⬠Despite everything the Cherokees didâ⬠¦changing all of their traditions, trying to negotiate, and finally trying to protect themselves with lawsâ⬠¦it did not matter. All the settlers wanted from the beginning was to manipulate and take every bit of land they could from the Cherokee. The Cherokee followed the ââ¬Å"civilization programâ⬠and settlers only thought that, no matter what; an Indian could never be ââ¬Å"civilized. â⬠As the historian Richard White put at the beginning, ââ¬Å"And in the end, being Indian is what killed them. â⬠How to cite Cherokee Removal, Papers

Whos Fault Was It? If one were to look for an individual to blame in the tale of Oedipus many characters would stand out. When taken away to be destroyed the herdsman responsible for leaving baby Oedipus to the elemenst did not have the resolution to complete the task. Instead he gave Oedipus toa messenger in the hopes that he would take the infant to a faraway land and no one would ever know that Oedipus had not perished as ordered. If Oedipus had died as an infant then the prophecy would never come true and Laioss death would have been prevented. Oedipus was received by a childless King and Queen to raise as heir own. King Polybus and Queen Merope loved Oedipus very much and did not tell him that he was not their biological child. 1. HOW WOULD YOU CHARACTERIZE THE HOUSEHOLD FURNITURE INDUSTRY? In 2004, the Household Furniture Industryââ¬â¢s annual growth was 4%, it was a $36. 4 billion industry. There a many competitors within the industry because of low cost imports from Asia and Mexico. The household furniture industry is also closely tied with the economy. After the housing boom in the early 2000ââ¬â¢s, companies needed to focus on a more innovate and stylist product to get consumers attentions. Household furniture products are classified as wood (48%), upholstered (34%), and metal/other (18%). They are then segmented by price and quality. In a survey, Consumers rated that they are more concerned about style, design, quality, and comfort. They are not loyal to one particular brand because 60% of them would switch brands when looking for a replacement. The consumers are also highly involved in the process of purchasing furniture, 60% of them talked to third parties and 70% visited more than one store prior to a purchase. They are also vary significantly on where they purchase their furniture. 2. What are the benefits and risks associated with the acquisition of PLFD? The benefits associated with the acquisition of PLFD is, they have very strong brand equity and a recognizable name within the household furniture industry. They are associated with high quality and stylish products. 80% of consumers were aware of the brand. PLFD occupied the number one or number two market share position in several categories. They also had strong ties with all of the leading distribution centers. This is something that Manchester Products was lacking and could significantly help them to get their products onto the market. Also the household furniture industry is a larger industry and has more steady growth than the office furniture industry. Some of the risks associated with the acquisition are Manchester and PLFD targeting two different markets. Manchester is primarily office furniture, home media, and recliners for the home, where as PLFC with Accent Pieces, Bedroom, Chairs/Sofas, Dining/Kitchen, Entertainment/Media, Home Office, and Tables. They have two different styles of furniture. Manchester offers conservative, functional designs, where as PLFD offer bold styles and fashionable colors, which would definitely be two different target markets. Another risk is that Manchester can only use the Paul Logan name for 3 years. It is important that they use this name to their benefit because of the brand equity, but they also want their customers to be aware of their Manchester brand because that will ultimately be the brand name. Also a major risk is that competitors such as National Furniture are looking for an opportunity to capitalize on the acquisition and steel some of PLFDââ¬â¢s business. Once the acquisition is complete, MH needs to make sure that they come up with a strong marketing strategy so that they do not lose loyal or potential customers. 3. 4. What are the marketing problems raised in the brand transition? Which of the three brand transition options outlined in the case should Adams recommend? The major problems in this case are, the 2 different styles of furniture that MH and PLFD offer, target two different types of consumers, and how to transition from the Paul Logan name to Manchester name. Both MH and PLFD target customers in the Middle to Upper Price points, but their customers have 2 different styles. MH is conservative and PLFD is highly stylish. The aspect that they need to consider is how to make both target customers happy. In order to transition the brand, it would be very helpful for MH to keep the Paul Logan name initially. MH has to be very cautious about their competitors because they are ready to capitalize on the acquisition. If they keep the Paul Logan name, customer will still recognize it and purchase it because of the brand equity. This will help MH to secure most of PFLSââ¬â¢s market share and help them to remain competitive. Another reason why they should keep the Paul Logan name is because of the distributors. PLFD is a traffic builder in stores and distributors are concerned about the acquisition. MH needs to secure these distribution centers in order to close up the holes in their distribution network. Once they do this and start building relationships with the distribution centers then they can consider building their business on the MH name. Jeremy Campbell the VP of Strategic Planning suggested that it does not have to be all or nothing for 3 years. Picking up one or two products at a time that lend themselves to low-risk brand transition and transitioning them to MH name gradually is a good start. MH may also want to develop two different names for their furniture styles. They will have 2 different target markets, conservative and high fashion. MH is associated with more conservative furniture, so it would help if they developed a new trendier name for Paul Loganââ¬â¢s furniture to reach their different target markets. 5. 6. Compare the marketing budgets for MH and PLFD. What difference do you see in the allocations of push vs pull expenditure? Do you agree with Adams budget estimates and allocations? Reviewing the marketing budgets of MH and PLFD, PLFD allocated much more of its budget to push programs in the form of volume rebates and purchase allowances for trade compared to MH which put more of their budget into pull programs such as national advertising. In 2005 MH is planning on reducing PLFDââ¬â¢s push programs by 3. 8%, a total of $38 million. In addition to this they are increasing the pull programs for MH by 9. 7% of $45. 6 million. MH should reconsider this marketing budget. One of the major issues that MH has had in the past is securing distribution for their products. By acquiring PLFD, they are in a very good position to secure more distribution, but at the same time, they do not want to turn off the household distribution outlets by not offering volume rebates and purchase allowances. These push programs are what helped PLFD have strong relationships with buyers from major furniture chains, department stores, and wholesalers. Adams should not make any significant changes to the pull programs that PLFD had in place. Instead, he should be adding more to both budgets. During an acquisition and at a time that you want to build up your customer based, it is not a good time to be cutting back on your marketing. It is important that MH uses both push and pull strategies through this acquisition. PLFDââ¬â¢s closest competitor is looking to beef up advertising and price reductions. They are also looking at using an aggressive strategy to exploit the uncertainty associated with the integration. MH needs to come out with guns blazing. They definitely donââ¬â¢t want to turn off their distribution network because it is very important to get the product out on the market, but they also need to advertise

5 Myths about an Essay Writer Who Does Model Papers for You
5 Myths about an Essay Writer Who Does Model Papers for You 5 Myths about an Essay Writer Who Does Model Papers for You Have you ever wondered what an essay writer has in terms of qualifications? Many students are curious about hiring an essay writer but they are hesitant because of the many myths out there relating to the services they provide. There are 5 myths which will be debunked for you about an essay writer who does model papers for you: All Writers Are from India While it is true that there are many writers from India who handle model papers on behalf of students, not all writers come from that area. In fact, many writing services allow students to choose between native speakers and non-native speakers. Native speakers are generally more expensive while non-native speakers are cheaper. Those who fall under the category of non-native writers do not come necessarily from India but might be from Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Kenya. These are all popular places for non-native speakers to work online. Essay Writers Have Bad English It is not fair to state that any writer you select online will have bad English. There are many who do, but you need to carefully choose a custom writing service with good reviews, good feedback, good experience, and writers who have an extensive resume as a part of the company. Writers, who have extensive experience in the academic field, and positive feedback from happy clients, will have good English skills and are typically native speakers. Writers Donââ¬â¢t Make Any Changes This is not necessarily true. It happens with bad services and companies which fail to offer comprehensive and experienced providers. But those companies which are good will make changes if you ask them, and, in fact, many services have substantial revision policies as a part of the original agreement which means that a custom writer is required to provide you with the revisions you want. Writers Give Pre-Written Essays If you select a good writing service as well as a great writer, they will make sure that you get a high quality essay which has been written from scratch. Essay Writers Take Little Money for Their Work If you really want an experienced writer, you will have to pay for the cost of high quality work. If you are paying a cheap price, it is probably for a pre-written essay. So be prepared to get high quality work at a price. That being said, there are many writing services which offer custom essay writers who are qualified, provide unique papers, and speak English as their native language. It is really up to you to search for the best companies available based on reputation and experience before you hand over your payment for a model paper.

Democracy and Citizens essays
Democracy and Citizens essays Democracy, in its simplest form, means all power to all the people above other issues. It means that society is run by its citizens, rather than the rich (aristocracy) an individual (despotism) a royal family (monarchy), or a clergy (theocracy). For survival democracy needs freedom of information and expression, equality between its citizens, and peace. Many people think that nations are either democratic or not - like a light switch that can only be on or off. There are different levels, like a dimmer switch. The demand for democracy is strong, and democracy's enemies (mainly aristocrats - the rich) have survived by compromise, creating governments with a low standard of democracy that give the people as little power as possible without causing a revolt. The more of a threat the people pose to the aristocrats, the more freedom and power they will be able to take. We have been lulled into security - by our pursuit of non-issues like animal rights and abortion, our fear of each other, and our plain hopelessness and apathy. The result is a semi-liberated netherworld where all are created equal until inheritance, where freedom of the press belongs to those who own a press, and where we fight wars for peace. It is a higher standard of democracy than Athens, but still not good enough. Higher up the standard is direct democracy (rule by the people without representatives) and at the very top is anarchy - a society so democratic that no authority is needed. Some talk of the social contract, and the consent of the governed. It makes sense that a rich person consents to being rich if they didn't they'd burn their money but who consents to being poor? People need to take an active role in their government. All too often, through our complacency, we tend to let other people make decisions for us in our best interests. In a democratic society, this proposition is dangerous. Every American over the age of 18 (as the age l...
